Oregon

Oregon took us by surprise. We drove west from Boise to Portland. We’ve always associated the landscape of Oregon, wrongly as it turns out, as being part of the Pacific Northwest rainforest. Well, certainly part of it is, however the drive from Boise across the state was a startling awakening. Much of the state continues the high desert terrain begun in Idaho. We drove along the highway, much of it following the twists and turns of the Columbia River and found it to be, well, not very pretty. It wasn’t until we got much closer to Portland that the rainforest we’d expected all along came into focus. Oregon was full of surprises in other ways as well. Read on!
