Greer

We found Greer, and notably its downtown areas to be utterly charming.  We visited one afternoon in December and were pleasantly surprised by the scope of retailers and restaurants and even living alternatives downtown.  A plaque indicated that the downtown area had been revitalized recently.  Also nice to know that parking is easy to find.

A city challenge for best Christmas storefront decorations had been taken up by nearly every retail outlet and was festive to see!   A great mix of stores - clothes (men and women), shoes, housewares, gifts, etc.  Lots of people were out and about, shopping.

There were several stores and signs that harkened back to the 50’s - Rexall drugs as well as a men’s clothing store and one can easily imagine Greer being much the same then, only with a different mix of stores and restaurants.

There was a good mix of restaurants, from coffee shops to Mexican to sandwich shops to more upscale offerings making for a nice choice.

A very nice park with benches is just next to the downtown area and made for a lovely walk.

The downtown area is small, just a few blocks, and charming.  Walking around makes for a lovely afternoon.

Also in Greer, though a distance from the downtown area, is the BMW museum.  About 20 or so cars are on display demonstrating the history and evolution of their car design over the years and it IS fascinating.  The self-guided tour takes about an hour or so.

The presence of the BMW plant over the past 20 or so years has contributed significantly to the economic prosperity of Greer and the surrounding area, including Greenville.
